[vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][vc_column_text]Available in German here.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Today, the European Centre for Press and Media Freedom (ECPMF) officially launches its latest project to support journalists living and working in exile in Germany. The project, titled “Opportunities in Exile”, is supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) and co-financed by the Free State of Saxony.

 

 

 

Around the world, as environments for press freedom grow increasingly restricted, media professionals find themselves under growing pressure. ECPMF provides practical and legal assistance as well as temporary shelter to journalists and media workers who are located in Europe, supporting their ability to continue working in the face of threats, harassment, and/or intimidation related to their journalistic activities.

 

 

 

Because of the increasing threats against individual journalists, many of them are being forced to flee their countries of origin. Katrin Schatz, Project Manager Practical Support at ECPMF, said:

"We stand in solidarity with persecuted and threatened journalists and want to actively contribute to ensure they can continue their valuable work in exile. In order to facilitate their ability to work in Germany, we are expanding our individual support offers for exiled journalists and media workers. The goal is to work together with the journalists in order to enable long-term professional opportunities and social participation."

For that reason, the “Opportunities in Exile” project offers support in the following areas:

 

 

Individual support for journalists and media workers in exile in Germany

This individual support includes offers for exiled media workers in Germany, irrespective of their origin, which can be adapted depending on specific situation and needs. The journalists get access to professional training, internships, language courses, legal advice, psychosocial support, equipment, and networks. ECPMF provides the necessary funding and contacts to enable the journalists to shape their lives and professional pathways in Germany as independently as possible.

Temporary relocation through ECPMF’s Journalists-in-Residence Programme

The project funds part of our Journalists-in-Residence (JiR) programme, which offers temporary relocation for media workers who are particularly at risk. The programme enables journalists who are under threat and located in Europe a temporary shelter in Germany. In a protected environment, they can distance themselves from crisis situations, take a break from work or continue researching their projects.

Das ECPMF startet das neue Projekt “Perspektiven im Exil - von und für Medienschaffende” mit Unterstützung der Bundesbeauftragten für Kultur und Medien und dem Freistaat Sachsen.

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Das Europäische Zentrum für Presse- und Medienfreiheit (ECPMF) gibt heute offiziell den Start seines neuesten Projektes für Journalist*innen, die in Deutschland im Exil leben und arbeiten, bekannt. Das Projekt mit dem Titel “Perspektiven im Exil” wird von der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien (BKM) gefördert und vom Freistaat Sachsen kofinanziert.

 

 

 

Weltweit wird die Medienfreiheit immer mehr eingeschränkt, sodass Medienschaffende zunehmend unter Druck geraten. Das ECPMF bietet Journalist*innen in Europa praktische und rechtliche Unterstützung, sowie temporäre Schutzaufenthalte, damit sie ihre Arbeit trotz Bedrohungen und Verfolgung fortsetzen können.

 

 

 

Aufgrund der zunehmenden Verfolgung einzelner Journalist*innen, sind viele von ihnen gezwungen, ihre Herkunftsländer zu verlassen, um anderswo Schutz zu finden. Katrin Schatz, Projektmanagerin des ECPMF, sagt:

"Wir bekennen uns solidarisch mit verfolgten und bedrohten Journalist*innen und wollen aktiv dazu beitragen, dass sie ihre wertvolle Arbeit im Exil fortsetzen können. Um das berufliche Ankommen in Deutschland zu erleichtern, bauen wir unsere individuellen Unterstützungsangebote für Journalist*innen und Medienschaffende im Exil aus. Ziel ist es, gemeinsam mit den Journalist*innen zu arbeiten, um langfristige berufliche Perspektiven und gesellschaftliche Teilhabe zu ermöglichen."

Daher bietet das Projekt “Perspektiven im Exil” Unterstützung in folgenden Bereichen:

 

 

Individuelle Förderung für Journalist*innen und Medienschaffende im Exil in Deutschland

Die individuelle Unterstützung umfasst Angebote für Exiljournalist*innen, unabhängig von ihrer Herkunft, welche je nach Situation und Bedarf angepasst werden können. Die Journalist*innen erhalten so Zugang zu beruflicher Weiterbildung, Praktika, Sprachkursen, Rechtsberatung, psychosozialer Unterstützung, Equipment und Netzwerken. Das ECPMF stellt die notwendigen finanziellen Mittel und Kontakte zur Verfügung, damit die Journalist*innen ihr Leben und ihren beruflichen Werdegang in Deutschland so unabhängig wie möglich gestalten können.

Temporäre Schutzaufenthalte im Rahmen unseres Journalists-in-Residence-Programms

Das Projekt fördert einen Teil unseres Journalists-in-Residence (JiR) Programms, das besonders gefährdeten Medienschaffenden temporäre Schutzaufenthalte in Deutschland ermöglicht. Das Programm richtet sich an Journalist*innen, die innerhalb Europas bedroht sind. In einem geschützten Umfeld können sie von Krisensituationen Abstand nehmen, eine Pause einlegen oder weiter an ihren Projekten arbeiten.

Unterstützung für Unterstützer*innen

Außerdem bietet das Projekt den Projektverantwortlichen und ihren Netzwerkpartner*innen Möglichkeiten zur Vernetzung und Fortbildung im Bereich der psychosozialen Versorgung.
