Welcome to our Journalists-in-Residence (JiR) programme – an empowering opportunity for brave journalists like you!
Are you a media professional facing challenges due to your impactful work? We understand the importance of safeguarding your well-being, and that's why our JiR programme is designed to offer you a supportive haven where you can find peace, inspiration, and resilience.
Imagine spending three to six months in a secure and confidential environment in the heart of Leipzig, Germany. A fully furnished, rent-free apartment awaits you, ensuring
your focus remains on your journalism endeavours without any financial worries.
But that's not all – to help you fully embrace this experience, we provide a generous monthly stipend covering your basic living costs. From visa expenses to health insurance, we've got you covered, allowing you to concentrate solely on your passion and creativity.
We also understand that every journalist's journey is different, so our programme is flexible, tailored to meet your individual needs. If travel costs, psychological counselling, or specialised journalism-related training like mobile reporting and social media management are on your wish list, we've got that covered too!

Eligibility criteria
- Residency: Be a legal resident in any European Union member state or candidate country, a Council of Europe member state, or reside in Belarus or Russia.
- Valid Passport: Hold a valid passport.
- Professional Experience: Provide at least two references from reputable human rights or media organisations confirming a minimum of 3 years of journalistic work. These references should also highlight the threat situation you have faced as a result of journalistic activities.
- Language Skills: Possess verifiable English, German, or Russian language skills at least at an A2-level.

- Two reference letters from human rights or media organisations, confirming your journalistic experience and the challenges you've faced.
